Photomania

Welcome to Photomania 2013!

Whatever be our age, sex or profession, we all love to see beautiful things! The pleasant scene of a lush green meadow or a calm lazy glacier or a ghostly river or a violent sea or a silhouette of people walking in front of a sunset or a beautiful rose or a nice chocolate dripping ice cream or even a blank wall. All these scenes bring in a different emotion in us & to experience them all is the very essence of life!

"A picture is worth a thousand words"

In Photomania 2013, we are here to celebrate the power of a picture! We are here to celebrate the art of Photography! We are here to celebrate the World Photography Day on August 19th, 2013! On this precious day, we are conducting an Online Photography contest. We welcome all the budding young and enthusiastic people to take part in it.

Rahat Relief Recent Updates.

Due to the heavy rain and floods, taking the relief materials to Uttarakhand is not so easy. Our Partners (Goonj and Chennai Cares) has asked us to hold the relief materials for some more time.  So, we have to keep our fingers crossed until we hear back from them.  However, we are constantly keeping in touch with them to check the correct time to send the materials. We will be sending the relief materials after hearing back from them. Thanks for your understanding and support till that.

Rahat Relief

RAHAT RELIEF

The Uttarakhand flood lasted for the past few days and has already claimed more than 822 lives. Many people are dying as we read this article. More people have been injured & have lost all their belongings. The Disaster Management Department, Army & Air force are all being employed in the rescue missions. Apart from the government agencies; many Non-Governmental organizations also take part in the relief and rehabilitation of the victims.

As “RELIEF” efforts are one of the primary objectives of Gnana Deepam Trust, We have now started a project, “Rahat Relief” to provide a better rehabilitation for the flood affected people. The project is aimed at collecting necessary materials from all the active regions of GDT. The collected materials will be accumulated and sent to Uttarakhand via Goonj (www.goonj.org) and Chennai Cares (www.chennai-cares.blogspot.in). This project is possible only by (y)our active participation. Through Gnana Deepam Trust, we request you to donate generously and help a better life for everyone. Currently they require,

·   Blankets
·   Cooking Utensils
·   Medicines
·   Candles
·   Tent making materials
·   Tarpaulins
·   Monetary funds

Donations can also be deposited to our trust’s bank account.

P.S: For now, Goonj has already sent excess of food materials and clothes. So, please send the items requested above. If you are unable to collect the mentioned items and could collect only clothes or food, please let us know about that too. We can always help those who need clothes and food from other areas. Even in this very second, someone near us is struggling hard to get the food and clothes for themselves.

SPARK 2013

We are extremely happy to inform that Gnana Deepam Trust is organising SPARK. SPARK - SPorts, ARts, & Knowledge is an inter-school competition that is conducted exclusively for to the kids of the government schools & government aided schools to expose them to new stage & to instill confidence in them.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the arts festival (SPARK) are to
1. Provide an opportunity for the under-privileged students to show their talents.
2. Motivate the students to improve their talents.
3. Make them competitive with the urban students.

PLACE & IMPORTANCE

The place chosen for the 2013 Arts festival is ALANGULAM. Alangulam has many hamlets near the Tirunelveli which has places like Keelapavoor, Nettur, Puthupatti, Venkatampatti among the others. Most students from these places are from Underprivileged section of the society. In order to develop these places, we need to develop the children of this area.

THEME
"FREEDOM FROM CORRUPTION & TERRORISM"

The theme of the competition is "Freedom from Corruption &  Terrorism". This topic is chosen as they are the two main problems faced by today's India. Terrorism cannot be eradicated and corruption cannot be controlled unless the future generations abstain from them. Young minds of the nation should ideate about these problems and the methods of their extermination. Only then, can we ideate of becoming a DEMOCRATIC & INDEPENDENT INDIA.

CONTRIBUTE to Gnana Deepam Trust, EASILY!

We have been active for the past 4 years but we have always collected the money for all the events during or just prior to the event. The main reason for this was the fact that our Gnana Deepam Trust account was in Dindigul & it was not logistically viable to take the money or disburse funds to the required places. Now we have activated the "INTERNET BANKING" in our trust account. This enables us all to contribute funds from the comfort of our home!

We request you to make a monthly contribution of Rs 200 or more towards the trust account. The monthly account statements will be mailed by 15th - 18th of every month.

Deepavalhi For All - 2012

We are happy to inform you all that our event “DEEPAVALHI FOR ALL” was immensely successful. Thanks to all your wishes & contributions. We are humbly proud to say that this is the third consecutive year in which we successfully conducted the event.

In the year 2010, we conducted it only in Tiruchchirapalli. In 2011, it was conducted in Tiruchchirapalli & Chennai but this year we are extremely happy to have conducted the event in Tiruchchirapalli, Chennai, Salem & Dindigul. Apart from the above mentioned four places, we tried to conduct the event in Namakkal also. Due to the lack of funds & inadequacy of human resources in the area, we were not able to coordinate the event in Namakkal. However, we are making every effort possible to make the Namakkal cell active & our Regional Director – Namakkal, Mr.Selva Kumar is working his best to make it better.

This year, in Tiruchchirapalli, we provided lunch, distriubuted sweets & snacks in the following places
  • Krishna Home – a home for unprivileged kids & old age home.
  • Gangaru Trust – a home for mentally ill.
  • Vidivelli Home – a home for disowned children.
  • Puthur Government blind school.
  • Holy Family – a home for HIV affected kids.

In Chennai, we distributed sweets & crackers for
  • Arumbugal Aalayam
  • Siru Malargal
Apart from that we also provided non-vegetarian lunch & monthly provision for the children at SIRU MALARGAL home.

In Dindigul, we provided lunch for the kids at ANBAGAM, a home for HIV affected kids. We also conducted competitions for them and gave away prizes & gifts.

In Salem, we distributed sweets & snacks to the kids at Don Bosco home.

We thank all the volunteers who joined and made the event possible & all the kind hearts who were able to send in their contributions of donations or crackers or food materials for the un/undeprivileged kids.

We are also happy to inform that we have confirmed our SPARK 2013 & more details about the same will be updated soon. We request you all to lend us your noble support for our future events & make them successful like DEEPAVALHI FOR ALL!

Thank YOU, Once again.

Deepavalhi 2012

Hi everybody, My name is Kalpana. I am 11 years old & I will become an engineer in the future. I want to invite you all to Arumbugal Aalayam, my home for this Deepavalhi. We are a huge family of 50 members in Chromepet, Chennai and we are going to celebrate Deepavalhi on November 13th with our friends from Gnana Deepam Trust. Last year, they came to our home for Deepavalhi and we all happily celebrated it by having sweets, special foods and by bursting crackers & by lighting, my personal favourite, FANCY FIREWORKS! We all had a great Deepavalhi last year & this year they are coming with more friends to celebrate Deepavalhi with us.

This year we all with our friends from Gnana Deepam Trust will have special foods, snacks & SWEETS! What is a festival without SWEETS? Moreover we will light fireworks including firepots, SPARKles and much more. We will also burst loud crackers like Laxmi vedi, Double shots & the big loud ATOM BOMBS! After all crackers are really good if they are not going to hurt others in anyway. I am sure my friends will take care of us all and we will have a safe Deepavalhi, just like last year!

Husshh... That is not all... This year they are also going to conduct a surprise game for us and give us all some SPECIAL gifts. (Don't say it loud... Only I know this. We are going to surprise my whole family!)

Wait... Wait... Wait... Allow me to introduce Ratna, my friend from SIRU MALARGAL.

Siru Malargal is also a big home of 45 people situated in Athur of Chengalpet. My friends from Gnana Deepam are also going to celebrate Deepavalhi with them. Since all my friends in Siru Malargal are going out on Deepavalhi, they are going to celebrate it on November 4th. Yes, this Sunday itself.

All my friends in Siru Malargal are going to have NON-VEGETARIAN food & sweets this Sunday! Apart from that they will also have the crackers & fireworks. Moreover they need a bell to wake up all the children in the morning & to make themselves ready for school in time. Of course the surprise game & the special gifts are there for them too...

So help my friends in Gnana Deepam Trust to collect the money that they need!
